Jannie de Bruyn, Pannar's representative in Swellendam, is very impressed with this beautiful planting of PAN 5R-785BR by Berry Botha & Seun (Berry junior) near George in the Western Cape. The Botha's planted the PAN 5R-785BR for silage production under dryland. This crop was planted on 3 January at 42,000 seeds per hectare. PAN 5R-785BR features second-generation stalk borer protection.
This platform is an excellent choice for silage production and consists of four hybrids, viz. PAN 5285, PAN 5686R, PAN 5R-785BR and the new hybrid PAN 5P-985PW with PowerCore™ technology. PAN 5P-985PW has the advantage of PowerCore™ technology that provides broad-spectrum protection against the Maize Stalk Borer (Busseola fusca) and Chilo Stem Borer (Chilo partellus), while the glyphosate tolerance provides benefit-proven, convenient weed control. This platform maintains good performance and is characterised by stable performance over seasons and wide area adaptability. It has a good yield potential, especially on soils with a clay content of >10% in the topsoil. They have an attractive plant type with good agronomic balance and show good tolerance against Cob and Tassel Smut and Northern Corn Leaf Blight.
