What’s new in the Pannar maize stable at NAMPO? 

Yellow Maize: This year Pannar introduced six new products to the formidable yellow maize package.

The first is PAN 4P-932PW, the PowerCore® introduction on the PAN 4A-132 platform. This early hybrid has excelled in product testing trials, demonstrating a robust disease profile, strong prolificacy, and consistent yield stability across various yield potentials.

PAN 4R-538R and PAN 4A-152 are two new platforms. Both include their PowerCore® variants, PAN 4P-938PW and PAN 4P-952PW, in their portfolios. The PAN 4R-538R platform shares the same genetic background as a popular former hybrid, PAN 4R-838BR.

This platform has strong emergence and seedling vigour and has performed well under a wide range of plant populations and yield potentials. The widely adapted PAN 4A-152 platform is an excellent choice for achieving stable yields in lower potential environments.

This season's new introductions conclude with the full-season platform PAN 6R-584R. This well-balanced genetic platform features an upright plant type for better harvestability, wide adaptability, excellent standability, a high prolificacy index, and significant test weight, all contributing to its impressive yield potential.

White Maize: This season, Pannar introduced three new white maize hybrids featuring PowerCore® trait technology.

The first hybrid, PAN 5P-963PW, completes the PAN 5A-163 platform, which is renowned for its excellent leaf disease tolerance and enhanced yield stability, especially in moderate potential fields. It also boasts good grain quality and demonstrates prolificacy at lower plant populations.

This hybrid platform pairs well with the PAN 4A-111 platform.

PAN 5P-939PW, a new genetic platform, is next on the list of new introductions. This widely adapted maize hybrid not only offers stable performance across the western production areas over several seasons, but also exceptional germination and vigorous seedlings, robust tolerance to Grey Leaf Spot (GLS) and Northern Corn Leaf Blight (NCLB), and enhanced resistance to Diplodia Ear Rot.

The PAN 5R-523R platform now features its own PowerCore® hybrid, the new PAN 5P-923PW. Tests have shown that this platform has a high yield potential on the water table soils of the northwestern Free State and is also well-suited to the North West region. It boasts new-generation genetics with an upright plant type that enhances harvestability.
