Useful Forage Crop Information Offered At Popular Extravaganza31 October 2013

PANNAR/NWK Forage Crop Extravaganza, Rietgat Trial Farm, Lichtenburg, 5 September 2013.

THE SELECTION of presentations available to farmers and sufficient time in the programme to visit the trials in person added a fresh element to the already popular Forage Crop Extravaganza, held annually by PANNAR in conjunction with the Lichtenburg branch of NWK. Farmers flocked to the event and were impressed by the interactive format and wide selection of food and refreshments that could be enjoyed at any time.

"It reminded me of moving from classroom to classroom during high school, but it was much more informative and the menu is also a treat," a farmer exclaimed while standing between the Chip-n-Dip and Spur tents.

Schalla van Schalkwyk, Charlie van Schalkwyk, Johann Smith, Jan Smit and Nico Botha thoroughly enjoyed the Forage Crops Extravaganza.

The format of the day's programme not only impressed farmers, but led to greater participation and interaction. Seven tours were offered at intervals from 08:30 to 13:00. At registration farmers received their complementary tickets for food, sweet treats and drinks and booked their tours. As an added bonus, everyone received a PANNAR coffee mug as a gift. Even the weather played along providing a magnificent windless spring day.

Forage crop presentations were given by PANNAR's experts and NWK staff, as well as related companies including Omnia Fertiliser, Opti Feeds and Molatek. Topics included forage cereals, intensive pastures, lucerne, radish and subtropical grasses. In addition, farmers received information on fertilising forage crops, rearing calves, supplementary concentrates and maize foggage.
