Pannar Seed, on behalf of Corteva Agriscience™, was humbled to assist with feeding food insecure families in our local community during the Coronavirus crisis. Through Aheers Supermarket and the Little Elephant Training Centre for Early Education (LETCEE) Pannar was able to provide 160 families with a substantial food parcel containing a mixture of staple foods and fresh vegetables last week.
“Food is the most basic human need. It is heart-breaking to think that many learners who normally receive school meals during term time may go hungry during this time of lockdown and extended school closure. We were honoured to make a small contribution to helping address this vital need during this challenging time,” said Nick Goble Pannar Business Manager.
LETCEE’s community liaison staff worked with the induna (traditional leader) in each area to identify beneficiary families in the impoverished, rural communities of the Umzinyathi district in KwaZulu-Natal, where Pannar is headquartered.
LETCEE is an Early Childhood Development (ECD) non-profit organization that was established in 1993 when it started training (mostly rural) women in ECD skills. It has grown from a small, part-time initiative, training 6 women in its first year, to a registered NPO training more than 250 women annually. Their staff currently offer practical guidance, training and support to 166 community play facilitators. These include toy librarians, home- and community-based ECD practitioners, as well as youth group and homework club leaders. LETCEE’s non-centre based ECD services are currently reaching 1,988 children that previously did not have access to any of these services.
