Johann Botes, Pannar's representative in Lichtenburg, shares this very good grain sorghum yield from PAN 8625, harvested by Vrywes Farming in the vicinity of Mareetsane. PAN 8625 was planted at a rate of 4.5-5kg/ha in 1m rows and fertilised with 150kg/ha 3:2:1 when planted and top-dressed with 100kg/ha 5:0:1. Well done to Vrywes!
Although grain sorghum is a relatively small crop these days, it can play an important stabilizing role in the summer grain production areas due to its greater drought tolerance, compared to maize, on marginal and heavier soils. It is therefore a good alternative crop for maize.
PAN 8625 is a bitter grain type sorghum and grades GH. It has a high malt value and offers excellent yield performance and agronomic properties. It is widely adapted with good standability and good tolerance against Head Smut.
Pannar's sorghum hybrids offer excellent yield potential, wide area adaptability and environmental stability. The agronomically-balanced package offers sweet- and bitter grain types, with good malt quality.
