The Importance of Planting Hybrid Seed9 March 2017

In Mozambique, the hybrid seed adoption rate is below 10%. At the moment, 90% of farmers plant open-pollinated varieties and recycle seed. This leads to average yields of below 1 tonne per hectare.

At PANNAR, we are working towards informing our valued farmers about the importance of planting hybrid seed, as well as sound agricultural practices.

Below are some photographs of one of our classroom meetings in Alto Molocue.

A PANNAR farmer from Montepuez explained to our team that this was the first time that he planted hybrid seed and that he is grateful that PANNAR has introduced him to hybrid maize and good agricultural practices.

The farmer was amazed by the performance of both PAN 3M-01 and PAN 53. The farmer chose PAN 53 for planting next season.
