On Friday the 17th of February 2018, PANNAR SEED, along with a group of farmers (enroute to Umhlanga on a bike roadtrip) visited two esteemed Bergville farmers, Egon Zunckel and John Jackson.
Egon and John shared their vision, experience and success with minimum tillage, which can perhaps be better described as conservation- or sustainable farming. These two gentlemen are proof that conservation farming, which is generally perceived as very limiting, is in fact holistic and without limitations. Egon and John are both very enthusiastic, passionate and scientific in their approach to crop production and are absolute fundi's in their own right.
It was a privilege to listen to them share their insights and experiences with conservation tillage and to gain some understanding of their considered and thorough production systems. In both their farming operations, their aim is to optimise production with minimal impact and in cooperation with nature, striving to live more in balance with nature and to conserve, and if possible, to improve their land and resources for future generations.
